As a state-certified farrier, you will be responsible for shoeing hooves with iron, plastic or other types of shoe. The care of bare hooves and advising horse owners are also part of your central tasks. In addition to a trained eye for the horse's locomotor system, these demanding activities require a range of expert knowledge and skills, taking into account numerous legal regulations, for example for animal welfare and health protection. On 1 January 2007, a new Farriery Act with its Farriery Ordinance came into force, which regulates the content of the training to become a state-certified farrier.
